AFTER VISTING MKO'S GRAVE, IBB NOW CALLS DELE GIWA HIS FRIEND
By againstbabangida.com
Former self-styled president, General Ibrahim Babangida, reinforced his new political signature when he described the murdered Newswatch Magazine co-founder, Dele Giwa, as his “mutual friend.” Wow!
Coming just a few months after he visited M.K.O. Abiola's grave in Lagos to shed crocodile tears, these efforts show that IBB is ready to lick any dung in his desperation to regain power.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Babangida, at the presentation of ‘Newswatch Best,' declared: “I am proud to say that I have enjoyed a very active personal friendship with the leadership of Newswatch right from inception. I have shared in your triumphs and successes. I have also shared the pain of your trying moments and sometimes, your tragic losses.” He stressed, “whatever else may change in the way you face the business and professional challenges of the years that lie ahead, you must abide in this priceless solidarity and fellowship. This friendship is perhaps the greatest honour that you can do to the memory of our mutual friend and Editor-in-Chief of Newswatch, Dele Giwa.” “I am sure Dele would have realised the significance of this occasion. We can only keep his memory alive by advancing the vision which you all shared at the inception of this great magazine”, he said.
The former military president, who was represented by his erstwhile deputy, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, stated that Newswatch was built on a tradition and had survived through difficult times while retaining its distinctive identity and defining tradition.
It would be recalled that Babangida is still suspected of killing the late journalist when agents believed to be military operatives delivered a parcel bomb to Giwa's house to silence him permanently regarding a drug-related story about to be published by Newswatch.
The Evil Genius has been accused of complicity in the murder by the Justice Oputa Commission, after years of IBB's success at mounted legal and illegal barrier to prosecute him for the murder. Babangida went as far as the Supreme Court to stop the government from publishing the report of the Commission, which invitation he had previously disrespectfully failed to honor. The panel made the following declaration:
"On General Ibrahim Babangida, we are of the view that there is evidence to suggest that he and the two security chiefs, Brigadier General Halilu Akilu and Col. A. K. Togun are accountable for the death of Dele Giwa by letter bomb. We recommend that this case be re-open for further investigation in the public interest."
And Babangida made sure the report was never officially released by getting the Supreme Court, which he had generously lavished with gifts during his rule, to endorse his wishes.
As IBB continues in his bid to return to power, he is now seeking whatever means to reconcile with the forces that he had satanically dealt severe blows while in power.
Twelve years after he annulled the electoral victory of his late friend, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, Babangida visited the grave of his betrayed friend last April, purportedly to attend the wedding ceremony of one of Abiola's daughters.
The visit drew the ire of Abiola's lawyer, human rights activist Gani Fawehinmi, who described it as patently obscene and a monumental insult to the memory of the late winner of the 1993 June 12 presidential election.
"That visit was obscene and highly scandalous. I am highly disappointed in those who welcomed Babangida into Abiola's residence. I am sure and I have no doubt that the spirit of Abiola will be very, very angry. He would be very angry in his grave that a man who caused such devastation to his life should be given such treatment."
"The visit should open the eyes of many people. Why did he wait for so long-12 years after? When Kudirat was murdered, where was Babangida? When Abiola was arrested, where was Babangida? When Abiola was murdered, where was Babangida? He did not visit in 1993, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 2001 – 2005. So, is it now that 2007 is around the corner and he wants to contest that he deems it fit to visit because he is haunted by Abiola, Abiola, Abiola so he must do something about it.
"But it is too late. The pain he inflicted on Nigerians has gone to the marrow. No amount of visit; not even one million visits can wipe out the pains and the indelible mark of IBB's treachery, ungodliness, and inhumanity.
“He's seeking power now, by the grace of God he will not get it . He denied Abiola that power; he will not get it. I have no doubt in my mind that MKO's spirit will be very angry for that visit. He would be very angry in his grave, that a man who caused so much devastation to his life and robbed him and the masses of our people the opportunity of having a leader of MKO Abiola's status; a man who ensured the nullification of the result, which led to his arrest and incarceration for four years and finally his death. The thing is that a man like Babangida who has no sense of shame can always do ungodly things.
“If he visited Abiola's grave as reported, then he was there without any feeling. Evil men don't have feeling. He merely went there not as a compassionate human being but in his own perverted sense of thinking; that he had finally conquered MKO. He went there as a conqueror. He went there to say that he conquered MKO Abiola.
“But let him know and be assured that he never conquered MKO Abiola and can never do that. He merely postponed the salvation of the Nigerian people. One of these days, that salvation will come and all evil men in this country will pay the supreme price for their perfidy; for the murderous act that Babangida had done to the Nigerian people and to one of his best friends, Chief MKO Abiola who he denied the legitimate right to govern the country; caused his detention for four years and finally his murder. If that election had not been nullified illegally, Abiola would not have been arrested and if Abiola had not been arrested, he would not have been murdered. And that is why I say visiting that grave by IBB is a symbol of luciferic man who has no human feelings because evil men have no feeling like you and I.”
