If the Nigerian presidential elections were held now, no genius would come out of evil, as former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, would get the spanking of his life. Poll results reveal he will be beaten so heavily, even newcomers would win more votes. President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu and General Muhammadu Buhari emerged as Nigerians' favourites for the post of President.
While nearly all of those quizzed (97%) are aware that Ibrahim Babangida has declared his intention to run for the 2011 presidential elections, only 27% think he should run for office. Of the 69% who think he should not run, 19% cited his poor reputation, while 19% said that they disliked him; 17% said that they want a new generation of leaders in a snap poll conducted by NO1 Polls.
Convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) and the Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has vowed to mobilise twelve million Nigerians to campaign against former military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in the 2011 general elections.
In days gone by, ‘IBB Boys’ was an appellation envied by many. It was a status symbol of sorts, and those who were lucky to belong flaunted it. It was a sort of ultra-elite club whose members seemingly possessed super-human qualities and were looked upon by the rest of the society as capable of doing anything and everything. They carried around a subtle air of intimidation.
Membership cut across both the military and civilian divides. For obvious reasons, however, those in the military were more visible than their civilian counterparts. After all, the godfather himself, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, was the head of state then. As would be expected, they were courted by the public more for the favour they could dispense than a measure of love or affection. But time, that inimitable strand of nature, has a way of changing everything. It has closed that chapter in the socio-political history of Nigeria, or so it seems.
ABUJA-As the race towards the 2011 elections draws closer, Political Leaders from the North Central Geo-Political Zone comprising, Benue, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa and Plateau States have asked their sons, including former military President Ibrahim Babangida and Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki, to withdraw from the Presidential race, as they have resolved to support President Goodluck Jonathan for the presidency.

Residents of Ibadan, capital of Oyo State have continued to show their resentment against the quest by former military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, to contest the 2011 presidential election by defacing his campaign billboards and destroying his posters in the city.
His billboards erected at the three highways that lead into Ibadan have been defaced. There is one along Ibadan-Lagos expressway, another one very close to the tollgate along Ibadan-Ife expressway and the third one very close to IITA along Ibadan-Oyo expressway. The face of IBB on the billboards was marked with letter X in red ink. Also, IBB posters pasted at strategic places in the city have been mutilated while some were completely torn or removed.

All is not well within the camp of former military dictator and Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, as many of his former supporters have deserted him. SUNDAY PUNCH gathered that the campaign is also experiencing some hiccups as the Evil Genius is believed to be weary of committing more of his personal money into the bid.
Among those that were initially pencilled down for appointment into the campaign but reportedly opted out due to irreconcilable differences included a former Brig.Gen. Halilu Akilu(retd.), who was to head the security unit of the campaign and Chief Duro Onabule, who was at the outset slated to lead the media team.
His public declaration on Wednesday, September 15, broadcast live on Africa Independent Television was a clear signal that Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria’s former military president was not leaving anything to chance, and he is obviously set for the 2011 polls.
The band of military loyalists of former military ruler, General Ibrahim Babangida, who were known in his days in office as Babangida Boys, have joined the push of the influential figures moving to see the former military leader out of the 2011 presidential race.
Nigerian Tribune sources revealed that who displayed their unflinching support for General Babangida while in office had reached out to their former boss and declared the need for him to serve as a bridge builder in the 2011 presidential race rather than being a loser. It was gathered that while the former military governor of Kaduna State, Colonel Abubakar Umar, had written to Babangida, asking him to withdraw from the race, others had chosen different means to inform the Minna General to quit the race.
Indications have emerged that Yoruba elders under the aegis of the Yoruba Council of Elders may soon pass a resolution prohibiting a former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) from campaigning in states where the language is spoken.
It was learnt that about 51 members of the YCE had appended their signatures to the proposed resolution, warning the former dictator to steer clear of Yoruba-speaking states during his campaigns. Addressing journalists in Ilorin, the Chairman of YCE, Kwara State chapter, Senator Suleiman Salawu, explained that ‘’no Yoruba man in his or her right senses would vote for IBB.”
