Federal Tap Turned Off On Former Military Leaders

General Ibrahim Babangida and other former military Heads of State will lose the free federal allowance of over N1.2 billion given to them yearly. Nigeria's Senate views the allocation to Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, who have already stolen billions of dollars from the nation's treasury to live extravagant lives, as unjust, when millions of Nigerians do not even have a job.

Afraid, IBB Denies Involvement in Abuja Bombing

E-mail Print PDF
As the United States dispatches Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents to Nigeria to join the battle to unmask the architects of the Abuja bombings, Evil Genius, Ibrahim Babangida, quickly sought to redirect attention from himself as the planner of the bombing. Babangida is believed to be very unhappy, having lost the bid to contest the presidency on the platform of the ruling party, and he is being rumored, along with presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar, as masterminds of the crime.

Feeling not so secure, Babangida raised alarm over alleged plot to implicate him. Speaking through one Kassim Afegbua, who issued a statement in Abuja, the former dictator said: "General Ibrahim Babangida is utterly surprised at the deliberate ploy to link him with the spate of wanton bombings that have created palpable fear in the land. This, to him, amounts to sheer blackmail. It exposes the weakness in the system, if private persons and former leaders who are enjoying their retirement are being linked to acts of terrorism or bombings.

Shut Up or Get Out, IBB!

One-time dictator, Mr. Ibrahim Babangida, got a scathing reply on his threat to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), if the party shuns zoning - he should quit or accept the party’s decision. Media and Publicity Committee head of the Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign, Mr. Sully Abu,said: “The Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation sympathises with IBB’s predicament. Having lost to Atiku in their so-called consensus arrangement, he must have been thrown into confusion and desperation at the prospects of impending political oblivion.

“Clutching at the straw of zoning seems attractive to a drowning man. But regional jingoism is unsuited for a man who once held the highest office in the land. IBB should learn to live with his changing political fortune and not further diminish himself by playing games which only political novices should play.  If he wants to go to another party, he does not need to blackmail anyone to do so. He should just go. The PDP has taken a decision on zoning and rotation; IBB can either live with it or leave the party.”

Gonna Try Elsewhere

Ibrahim Babangida has threatened to pull out of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2011 Presidential election if the PDP failed to zone power to his region. He stopped short of saying if he would contest, but this had been expected since he lost the regional slot in the PDP. It is strongly opined that Babangida is already planning to continue is tiring run for power in another political party after being beaten flat by Mr. Atiku Abubakar in a regional contest for the PDP presidential slot.

"“If the Party has become so helpless in the face of these gross violations of its own constitution by its officers and its highest elected representative, then many of us shall have no alternative but to reconsider our continued membership of the Party." he confessed.

U-Turn!

Former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, is set to dump the zoning arrangement which led to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as consensus candidate of the Alhaji Adamu Ciroma led Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF) on November 22. Indications emerged during the week that Babangida’s camp is unhappy with recent findings that some of the parties to the consensus arrangement went behind to influence the final verdict of the committee and public opinion.

The Evil Genius is, therefore, rethinking his earlier declaration that he would abide by the verdict of the zoning committee.

Not Gone...Hoping for a Rebound

Have a rethink if you think the Evil Genius is out of national life.  Ibrahim Babangida, the unrepentant dictator, failed to foreclose his political ambition in his acceptance of the sectional pick of Abubakar Atiku as the Northern Candidate for presidential election. Although IBB said he would abide by the decision of the Consensus Committee of the Northern Political Leaders Forum on the choice of ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the Northern candidate for the presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he also plans to rebound, in characteristic doublespeak.

Babangida Lands Softly Again

Consensus TrioGeneral Ibrahim Babangida has received a face-saving delivery from impending political waterloo, through the hands of ethnical gladiators, led by Adamu Ciroma, who managed to quiten contenders for the presidency in the ruling party, PDP, in favor of customs man, Atiku Abubakar.  Atiku Abubakar became the consensus candidate of the PDP in northern Nigeria and will run against President Goodluck Jonathan for the  ticket of the party in the primary election slated for December.

Babangida accepted the defeat with immediate effect and alacrity. His campaign spokesman, Raymond Dokpesi, expressed “profound gratitude” to the Consensus Committee for its thoughtfulness in the search for a candidate that shut the door on Babangida's face.

Babangida's earlier venture into presidential politics met a similar fortune when he yielded to former president Umaru Yar'Adua. At the time, he bowed out when faced with the bleak reality Nigerians still disapproved of him for cancelling the June 12, 1993, elections.

The ambition of former dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, to rule Nigeria in 2011 received knocks in Ibadan when hundreds of youths staged a peaceful protest march to call on Nigerians not to vote for him.

Operating on the platform of the Anti-Babangida Coalition, the protesters marched through Bodija to the Oyo State Secretariat, clutching several posters and distributing handbills. They sang anti-Babangida songs even as they urged passersby and motorists not to vote for the former ruler.

A Bad Reputation Weighs Down the Evil Genius

If the Nigerian presidential elections were held now, no genius would come out of evil, as former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, would  get the spanking of his life. Poll results reveal he will be beaten so heavily, even newcomers would win more votes. President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu and General Muhammadu Buhari emerged as Nigerians' favourites for the post of President.

While nearly all of those quizzed (97%) are aware that Ibrahim Babangida has declared his intention to run for the 2011 presidential elections, only 27% think he should run for office. Of the 69% who think he should not run, 19% cited his poor reputation, while 19% said that they disliked him; 17% said that they want a new generation of leaders in a snap poll conducted by NO1 Polls.

Let's face it - we have all always suspected Ibrahim Babangida of being a drug dealer. The story of Gloria Okon, Dele Giwa's death, the burning of the Ministry of Defence and other stories are all allegedly tied to an official drug ring during IBB's regime. We researched the rumors, and this is what we found.

In an authoritative report still posted on the web site of the Canadian Parliament on the drug trade in Africa, Labrouse marks out Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria's former self-appointed president, as one of the drug-dealing dictators in Africa. Read more

dele giwa

Dele Giwa, a journalist, was allegedly murdered on the 26 of October 1986 by the former military dictator Ibrahim Babaginda - following damning publications. Close observers of the Nigerian media feared then it was the beginning of harsh military dictatorship in the country. It was a true assessment.

Babangida refused to appear before the duly constituted Oputa panel, giving assorted reasons for his refusal. Ray Ekpu, Giwa's colleague, said: Well, the government may say that the killers have not been found but the killers are known. ...Many Nigerians agree that it was a state sponsored terrorism and that he was assassinated by the state. Read More

Nigeria's military dictatorship, led by General Ibrahim Babangida, annulled the Jun 12 presidential election and canceled plans to return the nation to civilian rule. Britain, the United States and France condemned the latest military takeover and threatened to toughen sanctions against NigeriaAbacha urged all Nigerians to forget the June 12 election.

Lagos lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi, however, said: "June 12 is a symbol of our democracy. It was a day Nigeria and Nigerians without any discrimination whatsoever united in voting Chief MKO Abiola in the freest election in the history of election in Nigeria. ... Read More

Most Nigerian leaders have been corrupt, but Ibrahim Babangida added new, historic elements to corruption. One prime example is what he did with the defunct BCCI Bank. BCCI's activities in Nigeria were so profoundly, overwhelmingly corrupt as to suggest a very significant level of corruption in Nigerian officialdom generally.

Whereas BCCI's activities in most countries merely involved corrupting a few, key people, in Nigeria the corruption was systemic and endemic, and touched nearly every operation of the bank in Nigeria. The bank was operated by Babangida and his friends, including a deposed powerful ruler in northern Nigeria. Read More
