IBB’s Billboards, Posters Destroyed

E-mail Print PDF

Residents of Ibadan, capital of Oyo State have continued to show their resentment against  the quest by former military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, to contest the  2011 presidential election by defacing his campaign billboards and destroying his posters  in the city.

His billboards erected at the three highways that lead into Ibadan have been defaced.  There is one along Ibadan-Lagos expressway, another one very close to the tollgate along  Ibadan-Ife expressway and the third one very close to IITA along Ibadan-Oyo expressway. The face of IBB on the billboards was marked with letter X in red ink. Also, IBB posters pasted at strategic places in the city have been mutilated while some  were completely torn or removed.

Some residents who spoke to P.M.NEWS said if they had the opportunity, they would removed  all his billboards.

They said they decided to deface the billboards because that was the only thing they  could do now, adding that with time, they would either destroy or remove the billboards  completely.

One young man who identified himself as Mukaila condemned those that are campaigning for  IBB in the South West, stressing that it is only bastard sons of Oduduwa that would  campaign for IBB among the Yoruba race.

Mukaila said: “Is it not insultive that IBB wants to contest 2011 presidential election  after destroying this country for us? What else does he want to do that he has not done?  After spending eight years in destroying the nation, he still wants to come back. That  will not happen and God will not allow it to happen.”

However, one of IBB’s media aides in Ibadan who spoke with P.M.NEWS under anonymity,  condemned the people that are defacing the billboards and destroying his posters.

He said that the act shows that they are intolerant.

According to him, IBB should be allowed to contest and if Nigerians don’t want him, they  will not vote for him and that will be the end of the matter..

Confirming the destruction of IBB’s campaign billboards and posters in parts of the  country, Kassim Afegbua, IBB’s spokesman, said it was an unwarranted provocation.

Speaking on a TV programme monitored in Lagos this morning, Afegbua said the campaign  posters were removed in Jos, the Plateau State capital ahead of President Goodluck  Jonathan’s visit to the state today.

He also said IBB’s billboards were being pulled down in Abuja, saying that such  intolerant and provocative act was uncalled for.

Defecting IBB's posters and bill board will not in any way stop him from becoming the president come 2011. the question is are the NIGERIAN masses want HIM back to contineu with his visionary leadership? If the answer is YES then those disgruntle element should go to hell. Babangida will change alot of things in this nation for good. He has done it before and INSHA'ALLAH HE will do it again. All those who involved in astericking (X) the billboards and posters of IBB are enemies of Nigeria, simply bcos they don't want things to work fine in the country. I urge them to stop doing that, if they don't like him, they should leave those in support of to elect him.

@Musa tanko & muhammad danladi aliyu. unless the election is rigged, a thousand IBB cannot even win his local government. I am not being sectional here, IBB does not fit in into the generation of leaders we are looking for to lift us out of the problem we are now. The question is why are people against IBB and not against Buari or Ribadu. The annulment of the freest and fairest election in nigeris is enough to disqualify him on a moral ground.

It is easier for you to comment on this website, but I find it difficult to access the IBB website. Why is he afraid of comments from people.

Let's face it - we have all always suspected Ibrahim Babangida of being a drug dealer. The story of Gloria Okon, Dele Giwa's death, the burning of the Ministry of Defence and other stories are all allegedly tied to an official drug ring during IBB's regime. We researched the rumors, and this is what we found.

In an authoritative report still posted on the web site of the Canadian Parliament on the drug trade in Africa, Labrouse marks out Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria's former self-appointed president, as one of the drug-dealing dictators in Africa. Read more

Dele Giwa, a journalist, was allegedly murdered on the 26 of October 1986 by the former military dictator Ibrahim Babaginda - following damning publications. Close observers of the Nigerian media feared then it was the beginning of harsh military dictatorship in the country. It was a true assessment.

Babangida refused to appear before the duly constituted Oputa panel, giving assorted reasons for his refusal. Ray Ekpu, Giwa's colleague, said: Well, the government may say that the killers have not been found but the killers are known. ...Many Nigerians agree that it was a state sponsored terrorism and that he was assassinated by the state. Read More

Nigeria's military dictatorship, led by General Ibrahim Babangida, annulled the Jun 12 presidential election and canceled plans to return the nation to civilian rule. Britain, the United States and France condemned the latest military takeover and threatened to toughen sanctions against NigeriaAbacha urged all Nigerians to forget the June 12 election.

Lagos lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi, however, said: "June 12 is a symbol of our democracy. It was a day Nigeria and Nigerians without any discrimination whatsoever united in voting Chief MKO Abiola in the freest election in the history of election in Nigeria. ... Read More

Most Nigerian leaders have been corrupt, but Ibrahim Babangida added new, historic elements to corruption. One prime example is what he did with the defunct BCCI Bank. BCCI's activities in Nigeria were so profoundly, overwhelmingly corrupt as to suggest a very significant level of corruption in Nigerian officialdom generally.

Whereas BCCI's activities in most countries merely involved corrupting a few, key people, in Nigeria the corruption was systemic and endemic, and touched nearly every operation of the bank in Nigeria. The bank was operated by Babangida and his friends, including a deposed powerful ruler in northern Nigeria. Read More
