We now have details of how the Evil Genius, General Ibrahim Babangida, crash-landed in his flight to use the “One Man One Vote” rally in Benin to bolster his 2011 presidential aspiration. Babangida was shocked by deep-seated anger against him and promptly aborted his planned campaign stops by lying that he had pains in his leg. Sunday Tribune reports that the plot by his supporters failed because of hostile reception by the civil society in the inside rooms of the Governor's house and on the floor of the event.
It was gathered that IBB insiders had planned that his attendance at the Benin would close the ranks between the former military president and the civil society, and launch him as a veritable aspirant for the 2011 presidential election. It was, however, gathered that the former military president backed out of the campaign bid having received a shocking treatment from activists and other speakers at the event.
A source at the event said that IBB had to tell Edo State governor that his radiculopathy ailment appeared to have recurred and that his legs were failing him when it was time for him to deliver the campaign speech.
Sources said that though Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had extended invitations to all former heads of state and presidents, as well as governors, Babangida’s tacticians had discovered that only IBB would make it to the rally.
A source said that former head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari had written to the Edo State governor to excuse himself from the rally, especially after it was postponed from mid April, following Oshiomhole’s inability to return from London as a result of the volcanic ash eruptions which disrupted flight operations worldwide.
Investigations also revealed that immediately it became apparent that Babangida was going to be the biggest fish at the rally, his publicists designed that he would attend the event and deliver a speech that would practically launch him into the presidential race.
But another hitch cropped up, insiders told the Sunday Tribune when the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, who was also billed to attend the event as chairman, he declined when it became apparent that Babangida’s men had planned to use the programme as a launch pad for his 2011 aspirations.
Sources further disclosed that unknown to Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka and the Action Congress (AC) delegation led by the former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, who protested the plan to make Mark chairman of the occasion, Babangida was already in the Government House, Benin waiting to attend the event.
While Tinubu and other AC members returned from the airport on hearing of Babangida’s presence at the event, Soyinka had to practically discover the General’s presence.
A source in the state said that Soyinka had gone to the Government House, Benin only to discover that IBB was already seated in one of the sitting rooms.
A source said that IBB received the first shock when he saw the anger in Soyinka upon the discovery that the former dictator was in Benin.
A source said that the Nobel Laureate wondered aloud why Oshiomhole “conned” him into an unholy company and that the governor had allowed him to waste his time.
Though Soyinka was said to have greeted the governors and other people in the sitting room, he shunned IBB and left the state in annoyance.
He was said to have wondered aloud who was bringing a dictator to the gathering.
“Soyinka went to a room in the Government House and was utterly angry. He uttered all sorts of words in anger and told a friend standing close and said: Adams conned him to Benin to go and hobnob with dictators. Why did he not tell me that dictators were coming? I would have spent my time on better things,” the Nobel Laureate was quoted as saying.
But a bigger shock awaited IBB at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue of the event.
A source said that IBB insiders had expected that he would be hailed upon his entry into the Stadium but that while the crowd hailed the representative of the Acting President Goodluck Jonathan as well as the five governors of the South South who attended the ceremony, the crowd was not enthusiastic when IBB’s name was announced.
That shock was said to have been compounded when civil right activists started lambasting IBB speaker after speaker.
It was Hassan Sunmonu who fired the first salvo, then Festus Keyamo, the fiery Lagos lawyer and then Dr. Joe Okei odumakin the Chairman of Campaign for Democracy(CD), all of them demanding explanations as to why IBB annulled the June 12 1993 presidential election described as the freest and fairest in the country.
“Following the series of attacks on him, IBB started whispering to governor Oshiomhole that his legs were failing him. Ibb was billed to speak at the event and launch his presidential ambition. But he told the governor that his legs were paining him and the he could not walk the less than 100 meter space between the podium and the state box,” a source who monitored the event said.
Another source further stated: “IBB was billed to speak at the event, he could not do so following the series of attacks that deflated the planned heroic entry he had projected in Benin.
“He came to test the political temperature to see how he will be received but it turned out the other way round, even now, some governors of the South South who are planning to run with him were jolted and they immediately started reviewing their association with the General.
I can see he was severely shocked and he could not stand up to deliver his speech within 100 meters of the podium.”

IBB should be told in plain and clear language that Nigerians are no fools. He had spent 8 years as President (even though he was unelected) which equates to the maximum 2 terms allowed by the constitution for that office. The schemer and power hungry Minna-born must be willing to face the public court to give account of the following:
1) the faked killing of Gloria Okon
2) the episode of the letter bomb-blasted Dele Giwa
3) the refusal to attend Oputa Panel
4) the mass killing of promising brilliant Army Majors in an aircraft, and
5) the much reported unaccounted proceeds from the $12.4billion Oil windfall.
Nigeria is yet to recover from the bad leadership IBB misrule impacted in its body politic. Babangida institutionalised corruption, legalised assassination and gave credibility to nepotism in public offices.
Gen. I.B. Babangida (rtd) has to answer all of the above in his own interest to earn himself a good reputation as a patriotic Nigerian. However, he needs to be advised to forget the goose chase he began in 2007 to return as Nigeria's President. That attempt to "step in" from "stepping aside" is an exercise in futility - IBB must be told this bitter truth.

this.I'm one of the many Nigerians in diaspora and still lamenting about the sorry state in which we have found ourselves due to the leadership ineptitude
and greed of the highest order .
This act super cedes all our human endeavor as an entity with no fault of ours but the hydra-headed monster called corruption which has eaten deep into
the psyche of our fabric system embedded by no other man but the EVIL GENIUS himself(IBB).My heart bleeds anytime at the thought of this same man about his
pasts and the present and now strategically placing himself for another shot at the future?without a blink? what a country.
The self confessed EVIL GENIUS had an opportunity of being in a government as a top hierarchy though was hard as the cry was then(buhari/idiagbon)and the
best ever it could have been sentiments aside. But he betrayed his own boss due to the cries of Nigerians then right? and after a long tortuous journey of 8
years of rigmarole and wasted funds of the poor masses down the drain with an election adjudged as the freest and fairest in the history of Nigeria
democratically ,he annulled it without any justification but reasons best known to him and was forcefully "STEPPED ASIDE".
During his time the windfall of the gulf oil accrued was expended only him knows how it was spent and the indicted reports still lies fallow under the
carpets of his evil deeds.after going through pains and crisis that bedeviled our great nation, democracy came about 10 years ago but still we groaning in
pains. An human right commission was set up for this country on a path to recovery to heal the past and mend the future with our self confessed man being
invited to give his own side of the story bedevilling our great country alast what happened?a court judgment in which he filed a charge against the commssion
ruled that against his appearnece and this made the report for the betterment of the society at large inconclusive till date .
I can write countless of heinous crimes with serious indictments that we are all aware of and will keep writing about this evil in man reincarnation but
time as they say would be spared till he comes out in the market square to dance naked cos he WHO GODS WANTS TO DESTROY ALWAYS DESTROY THE MIND FIRST.
True federalism is what he is preaching for his next shot but he seldom forgets that the same manifesto of their great party as they call it has got no
true federalism in it on whose umbrella(PDP) he intends coasting to power ,his usual deceits at it once again ?
If the self confessed man thinks Nigeria needs true federalism then the zoning formula of his party needs to be preached against by the evil genius himself
but NO until the good God whom we serve do JUSTICE to the great nation.i rest my case ...it is well..

If General Babangida wants to contest the 2011 general elections, let him feel free to do so; it is his constitutional right, which no one can take away, even with the harsh criticisms that currently trail his contemplation to contest the said election. The success of or otherwise of the General at the polls next year will not depend on what some few individuals say or do not say against him; it will depend more on the views of the Nigerian electorate as will be expressed through the ballot box. If the Nigerian electorate feel that Babangida is the man for the job, so will it be; if they do not want him, let them say so through the ballot boxI do not agree with the school of thought which suggests that Babangida has no right to want to rule again, after his alleged ‘evil deeds’ while in office as Nigerian Military President between 1985 and 1993. While one does not begrudge this school of thought of its opinion, it is important to bear one thing in mind (assuming IBB actually did anything wrong while in power), namely that even though no sin is so light that it may be overlooked, yet no sin is so heavy that it may not be repented of. Therefore, no matter how big, old, engrained, known, or unchangeable an offence might be, it can still be sincerely repented of, and healed. A word from the Christian Scriptures may help to emphasis what I mean the more: If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, pray, seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.—II Chronicles 7:14. Again, God said: I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud-mass, and your sins like a cloud. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you. –Isaiah 44:22. If God Almighty can forgive and forget, who are we, mere mortals, to insist on taking our pound of flesh against fellow men? These few Nigerians who try and actually do make a mountain out of General IBB`s ambition to come back as Nigeria`s civilian President come 2011 should pause a little and do a thorough reflection; it is possible that this same Babangida, whom they shout now, “crucify him, crucify him,” may turn out, if enthroned President, to be the best democratic leader this country has ever had. The question is, is it not possible that this man genuinely nurses his desire to be given an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past (if any)? Is it not reasonable to suppose that the best way to keep the fish safe is to entrust it in the care of the rat? Do we not ponder, even a little, on the possibility that, given this opportunity, this retired General may in the process of working so hard to prove his detractors wrong, end up surpassing the reasonable man`s expectations? On the premise that the devil we know is far preferable to the angel we yet know not. Let`s give IBB a chance to try his luck. Let him test his popularity. He has the right. And let the Nigerian voters, and not just a few individuals, be the ultimate decider of his fate. It is good to call a spade a spade, no matter whose ox is gored. I talk from the point of view of the law, bearing in mind the real essence of democracy: the beauty of democracy, which is what its founding fathers, led by Abraham Lincoln, had envisaged, is (as Anna Garlin Spencer put it) “its assurance that every human being should so respect himself and should be so respected in his own personality that he should have opportunity equal to that of every other human being to show what he was meant to become.” As long as the differences and diversities of mankind exist, democracy must allow for compromise, for accommodation, and for the recognition of differences. Democracy does not guarantee equality of conditions - it only guarantees equality of opportunity. Democracy means not "I am as good as you are" but "You are as good as I am." In conclusion, even though as George Santayana said, “those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it,” yet the brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. Further, forgiving does not erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future. In the final analysis, we are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future. For all you guyz out there who dont know, emkay dined with the devils prior to pursuing the fateful dream and the common man really wanted a change at that point, we probably knew little about Emkay's past or true personality OR just didnt care much as long as he was going to deliver us from evil but his case was actually one of "the evil that men do". He actually came to pay for his sins and pls celebrate the man because he has paid restitution with his life and I believe in my heart that he made up for his past wrong doings ( before anyone gets offended, pls ask those who knew emkay's life vewy well, yes he was a wealthy philantropist but..... how now? and he also did some major damage with that wealth too - do your research).
.........back to IBB, he's on the same collision course so let destiny take control. Men who fail to believe and acknowledge the supremacy of the Almighty will certainly have themselves to fall back on (which means no shoulders to cry on).
To respond to my brother Sylvester's epistle above; God may have forgiven IBB assuming he's become penitent which I personally doubt. Remember the greatest commandment of all? Love God above all and ur neighbours; treat them as you want to be treated. He has not acknowledged his wrongdoing to the 9ja people, I dont recall him showing any public remorse for his diabolic actions towards us nor seeming to, instead I see a man selfishly wanting to complete an unfinished business in a style familiar to him and him alone. Hmmm! If only he knew what he was getting into. You know, I never underestimate the possibility of him re-assuming office by some miracle but it's then that I'll be convinced his return is to fulfill all unrighteousness. He's dying in silence but needs to make it public, so be it! The bloods spilt are yelling for vengeance my friends, and I believe that justice will be served. It always is!

Let's face it - we have all always suspected Ibrahim Babangida of being a drug dealer. The story of Gloria Okon, Dele Giwa's death, the burning of the Ministry of Defence and other stories are all allegedly tied to an official drug ring during IBB's regime. We researched the rumors, and this is what we found.
Nigeria's military dictatorship, led by General Ibrahim Babangida, annulled the Jun 12 presidential election and canceled plans to return the nation to civilian rule.
Most Nigerian leaders have been corrupt, but Ibrahim Babangida added new, historic elements to corruption. One prime example is what he did with the defunct BCCI Bank. BCCI's activities in Nigeria were so profoundly, overwhelmingly corrupt as to suggest a very significant level of corruption in Nigerian officialdom generally.
